IPL– The torchbearer for sports and players.

Happy New Year to everyone and what better way to start the new year by writing few thoughts related to my favorite sport – cricket.

My 6 year old son is a cricket lover – plays, watches and talks about cricket a lot. We were watching Big Bash League match few days back and he asked me about the teams and players. I told him it’s the Australian IPL and he straight away asked what are the cities and their team names?  It was such an easy connect for him since he follows Indian Premier League IPL big time and knows quite a bit about team names, captains and players involved. He remembered and said that the Kabaddi matches also are like this only. He could relate there too and remembered we had gone to see the finals of first year where Jaipur Pink Panthers had defeated Mumbai team UMumba.

Yesterday I was watching Premier Badminton League PBL match between PV Sindhu and Carolina Marin so again he started asking details. I just told him its like IPL of Badminton and he could easily understand and asked me about the cities and team names for the tournament plus who the top players are.

ROCK GARDEN – Open Air Museum made from Scrap.

I call the Rock Garden of Chandigarh as the Open Air Museum made from scrap. This famous garden started by Mr. Nek Chand (1924–2015) in the year 1957 has become a must visit tourist attraction in Chandigarh. This year in May we decided to go up North to see some snow and enjoy the pleasant green surroundings of Manali, Dharamshala & Dalhousie in the summer vacations. On our way from Mumbai we stopped in Chandigarh for a day and saw the Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake & Rose Garden.

Eliminate classroom hunger.

When we talk about classroom to anyone it directly makes you think about school and little children who go to school. So when BlogAdda joined hands with Akshaya Patra in a campaign called #BlogToFeedAChild which turned out to be pretty special, I had to be a part of it.

Akshaya Patra has been an organisation which has constantly done the good hard work of fighting against hunger and malnutrition in India. The Mid Day Meal (MDM) scheme implemented by them in Government schools and government aided schools have done the formidable task of not only getting so many children to school but also to make them eat proper meal. We all know how important that one meal of the day is to any kid and MDM is the right thing. Akshay Patra also uses technology for the same to reach more and more needy children and their kitchens have become a subject of study for all. They have been doing some inspiring stuff.

A Daring Act – Mardaani.

YEAR – 1985

We, Nigotiya family have stayed in Moti Singh Bhomiyon ka rasta, Johari Bazaar, Jaipur since many many years and we have had good and cordial relations with mostly everyone in the locality. But when there is a bunch of apples, some rotten ones are always there. So we had these Jargarh Family who played this role of rotten apples.

We at Nigotiya House and the Jargarh family had a common small passage between our houses and it was meant to be a common passage but they had other views thinking it to be their private property. One fine day early morning they broke all the pipelines and sewage pipes of our house from that common passage and tried to disturb us. When my family gents ( My father and 2 chachas ) went to talk and clarify to them on the same issue they tried to be very rude and aggressive. By evening Jargarh family (around 6-7 brothers) with a big chunk of people ( 30-40 people ) all loaded with sticks and other weapons tried to terrorize my father and chachas. We had few family friends to our help but the surprise was my bhua Mrs. Indu Nahar ( she must be 40 years of age that time ) who without even thinking twice went down and started stopping these rogues. She literally stopped few sticks coming towards her brothers with her own hands. That was simply unbelievable.

I think it speaks volume of her strong character and daring nature which led her to not only come down from the house and face these people but also get in the middle and stop them from attacking. Though the scene didn’t go out of hand or worse but still I will always remember and respect for what my bhua stood and fought.

This might be a short and non filmy type story but this real life incident will always be engraved in our memories as her act of Mardaani.

India gives visa on arrival to 180 countries.

Government of India made a big big announcement for Indian travel industry and hopefully a big boost for Indian tourism by clearing two major steps – Visa on Arrival & Electronic Travel Authorization for all countries except 8 countries including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, China. Basically it will be total shift to online visa system where people who intend to come to India can simply log in, apply and pay for the visa. On arrival there will be  only a bio metric collection, that is it.

Government officials said this system is expected to start by October and this facility will be available at 9 airports in India to start off with and might end by to 26 airports. I look forward to the details on the validation, expiry, number of stays and visits, etc on this kind of visa system which will be out soon.

Also, my main consideration is how many countries will reciprocate this move by India which will ease travel for us also.
